Springbok Protester

In 1981 there was a rugby game played in Hamilton. Thousand and thousand of fans really wanted to watch it. I was one of the protester’s that had to try stop the springbok tour. Marching to the Hamilton stadium the protesters were huddled together arms linked. Tearing down the barbed wire fence we were chanting 1 2 3 4 “WE DONT  WANT RACIST TOUR.” 5 6 7 8 “THE WORLD CAN BE A BETTER PLACE.”

Holding up signs yelling out “STOP SPRING TOUR.” A plane in the sky dropping down smokes and flower bombs, filling the air like an orange fog.  Rugby fans were shouting “GET OFF THE FIELD!” the man shouted from the crowd.  These men were wearing motorcycle helmets with shields. Surrounding us.
